Taster Session with Swim and Capsize Drill a Success

Tuesday 11th September saw the DERC first Taster Session and second Capsize Drill and Swim Test at Welbeck Defence College.

25 potential members and new members took part in the 50m swim test using two different swim strokes, then completed the 5m under water swim followed by treading water for 2 minutes, all wearing light clothing on top of swim wear.

The participants then went on to the capsize drill where they went straight into feet in no sculls. All successfully completed this. They then went to get changed and upstairs to the gym. The demonstration was given by Boris Morgan and then four at a time, all had a go at the basic technique, arms only, arms and body, quarter slide and so on. Some found it easier than others.

It was then on to the classroom to watch the British Rowing/ARA water safety video. There was then time for some questions and people to sign up for the Learn to Row Course before heading to the Bull's Head round the corner for a drink.
