Soar Head 2013!!

Well Saturday 23rd November a fairly large contingent from the Devil's made the short trip down to Loughborough BC to take part Soar head. I say short trip as you can still see the power station stacks that are adjacent to the club from the river bank at Loughborough.
I think everyone can concur that this was by far the coldest morning of the year and with brass monkey's crying everywhere, we set about getting boats rigged and bodies kept warm. We had particapants in all three of the divisiio...

Devil’s Elbow Rowing Club (DERC) gets £9999 awarded from Sport England Small Grants Programme for NEW Coaching/Rescue Launch and Automated External Defibrillator (AED)


Devil’s Elbow Rowing Club is a new club in Long Eaton which opened its doors officially in August 2012. Since April 2012 it has been teaching people how to row and had their first win at Trentham Regatta in a Primary single in June by Matt Tyler.

Trafford win with Welbeck

Just a quick note that Welbeck had their first win of the Season with the W.Nov.4x+ coxed and coached by myself at Trafford Head. The boys had an epic fail in the eight with 3's rigger breaking and the fin falling off resulting in a crash that was caught on camera. See the Welbeck facebook page for pics

Boston Rowing Marathon 16th Sept 2012 – Course Record Time Broken

Earlier in the year the two senior ladies from Devil’s Elbow Rowing Club (DERC) rowed in Plymouth for the Eddystone Lighthouse Challenge and met Anneke Elliott who was racing in their ladies crew as the forth crew member. Anneke was eager to race in the Boston Marathon too, and soon after arrangements were made to race together in a quad with Anneke’s friend Morag Van Niekirk.Plans were put in place, admittedly somewhat late in the day. Taster Session with Swim and Capsize Drill a Success

Tuesday 11th September saw the DERC first Taster Session and second Capsize Drill and Swim Test at Welbeck Defence College. 

25 potential members and new members took part in the 50m swim test using two different swim strokes, then completed the 5m under water swim followed by treading water for 2 minutes, all wearing light clothing on top of swim wear.

July - Eddystone Lighthouse Challenge

Devil's elbow ladies successfully completed the Tamar Challenge. The Eddystone lighthouse challenge was cancelled due to an imminent force 8 and low visibility. The Tamar challenge consisted of 28km out to the breakwater, experience some rough water, then head inland up the Tamar. We caught up with the opposition (Plymouth Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club) at one point against the tide and held them for quite a time. First ever Junior WIN for DERC at Exmouth Rowing Club - Sea Rowing!!!

Our first ever win for DERC was gloriously won by Junior Member James Chritchlow (17) in the Exmouth Sea Rowing Regatta. DERC travelled 206 miles to race in the offshore regatta with three members, Julie Paillin, Nicola Cheesman and junior member James Chritchlow. James subbed in for Mayflower Offshore Rowing Club in the junior men's quad and rowed the 4k to victory through huge surf and high winds. He received a medal and a mug for his efforts and the proud accolade of being the first member...
