British Indoor Rowing Championships 2013!!

Friday night I arrived in Cardiff after a long hectic train journey following a busy day at the Clothes Show Live. Tired from all the shopping I soon went to sleep to prepare for the day ahead. An early morning energizing breakfast for me, well... a pain au chocolate and a hot chocolate but definitely not any of my Dad's beetroot juice! Tensions started to build as I was waiting for the taxi to arrive...I even had to return to the Hotel's reception to ask for the room key back as I needed another nervous wee!! Walking into the Sport Wales National Centre, seeing the many rows of ergos in front of me, I started to feel slightly intimidated. As we had got there rather early we decided to explore and followed signs to the Warm Up area. This was a warm up in itself- walking along many corridors and up several flights of stairs about killing my Mum!
As more people started to arrive I checked out the competition. There were 13 girls in my category all having to marshall at 9:45 with the boys J15's. Finally it was time to make our way to the ergos and start to warm up. The girl next to me was about crying with nerves even though she's done many of these events before. GULP! She asked what club i was from and when i replied she said, " Oh yes, that one with the weird name!"
It was time for our warm up to come to an end...
My eyes fixed to the screen, ready for the instructions. SIT READY, ATTENTION, GO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Apart from the camera man in my face (just a little bit distracting) the next 5 minutes were the quickest 5 minutes I've ever spent on an ergo! Towards the end I was conscious the girl coming 6th was gaining ground and I was determined to hold my place. I even had Jooles' voice in my head, "push with the legs, not far now!", and I could hear my mum screaming at me from the stands as she could see the big screen behind me displaying the race.
It was over... I rolled off the ergo with relief!! I came 5th having rowed 1245m only just over 100m off the winner. I was so pleased with my result and being the first person to represent Devils Elbow at an indoor event.
All in all it was a worth while treck out to Cardiff and an amazing experience- I would definitely reccomend it!
